Students are expected to come to me directly whenever they are absent to receive make-up assignments. They receive an extension in the due date equal to the amount of days they were absent.
MISSING A LAB DAY: This particularly applies to Physics and Engineering (which is everyone!). Labs must be completed personally to collect the data necessary for the assignments or reports that follow. I do not allow students to use each others data, that is not how a real scientists/engineers operate. As such, a student who misses must schedule time to complete that lab outside of class - either before or after school. The sooner, the better.
I'm a firm believer in personal responsibility - I will not baby an absent student. If they need notes, they will need to get them from a friend or find time to come get them from me. If they missed a lab, they come to me to schedule it - I will not approach them. If they do not understand an assignment because they missed a lecture (or for any reason at all!), I am available for tutoring Tuesday's and Thursdays after school, or probably any other day with a little advance notice.
Online Resources: More often than not absent students are confused because of missed lectures. There are some excellent sites that can help with almost all of the science content I teach. These are a few. If you feel these are inadequate, email me what subject you need and I will find more! I also make my own videos on request, often times it is the easiest way to answer a question outside of school. I can make them pretty quickly now.
